Corey Boobar was a very important mentor for me. He taught me all the good stuff I know about tattooing. This past weekend he got married to his long time love. So I whipped out this painting for the two of them before I headed up to Tahoe for their wedding. Thank you and congratulations.

Sketch Tuesday 3/16

Had a fantastic time at Sketch Tuesday last night. The atmosphere is awesome. A cool building filled with amazing artwork, an assortment of artists and a kick ass dj. 111 Minna is an older brick building with high ceilings, that always has art on display. The artist next to me was working on rendering old Impalas, the artist across from me was using a series of lines to create evil images with horns and eyes, and the artist diagonal from me was making some simple objects pop with an enamel paint pen. I could not pay too much attention though because I found myself very focused on my own artwork. The dj played 60′s music all night, including some songs that I don’t get to hear very often. I can’t really think of a better way to spend a Tuesday night. I would like to thank Brad, 111 Minna and everybody else that makes it possible for this event to happen.
Sketch Tuesday
I will be a featured artist at Sketch Tuesday this week…

Alder, Jay Howell & Angela Holmes. If you have any questions please find them running around during the event if you are an artist or a buyer.
111 Minna Gallery is pleased to announce the third ‘Sketch Tuesdays’ of 2010 and the 42nd time we’ve held the event! Each month the gallery hosts an evening of live art making featuring both
established and emerging Bay Area artists. Inspired by Southern Exposure’s Monster Drawing Rally,
111 Minna offers patrons the opportunity to see local artists at work and get acquainted with them.
It is also a way for artists to meet each other and to be inspired by each other’s creative process.
Sketch Tuesdays offers the local arts community a place to congregate, to talk, to create and to be seen. There is usually room for artists to just drop in and start drawing, but the good seats are
reserved for the invited artists.
Art is for sale at reasonable prices and will be displayed until the event closes. Check out video coverage here “..another example of really good value and the fun of collecting is the once a month Sketch Tuesdays at 111 Minna; 20 artists set up and draw or paint. Then they put it on the wall for
between $5 and $30; the work is beautiful, cheap and plentiful” – Ron Turner, Last Gasp
“Once a month 111 Minna hosts Sketch Tuesdays featuring live drawing from local Bay Area artists. They drink and create and then sell their works for ridiculously low prices. I mean you
can get some work from established artists for like $10. Granted the work isn’t one of their best,
but shit, if you ain’t got the cash to buy a $1,500 piece by one of your favorites, $10 sounds
pretty good to me. You can start collecting some of your favorites without breaking the bank…
But besides all the art buying possibilities, it’s just a good time. Drink with your friends and
watch talented artists create.” – John Trippe, Fecal Face Dot Com
“As evidenced by the endless hoopla surrounding Bob Ross’s television escapades, the artistic process is something people want to know more about. In response to this irrepressible need,
111 Minna Gallery offers up Sketch Tuesdays. The event itself intends to foster new relationships
within the local visual art community, hopefully birthing dialogue, new ideas, and collaboration”
- Michael Harkin, SF Bay Guardian
Check out Alan Bamberger of ArtBusiness.com for his great review of Sketch Tuesdays. sale. The prices are exceptionally magnanimously marvelous, tonight ranging from $6 to $30,
most under $20. And we’re talkin’ good art by good artists. So for those of you who love art, but
who aren’t doctors, lawyers, investment bankers, shipping magnates, patricians, children of privilege,
and so on and so forth, Sketch Tuesdays is very possibly the best option in town to jump start that art
collection you’ve always dreamed of having.”
Thank you Alan for your mind-numbingly radical documentation of art in SF. Please visit: www.ArtBusiness.com Sketch Tuesdays at 111 Minna Gallery was founded by artist and curator Sacha Eckes in 2006, meaning this is the 42nd one held. For history of artists who have participated in Sketch Tuesdays

Sailor Jerry Design
This is a little water-color I did a couple years back. Once in a while when nothing is going on in the shop and my brain doesn’t want to work, I like to paint Sailor Jerry designs. He is the master of traditional American tattoo designs and very inspirational for me. So I try to get into his mind; I like to try to simulate his work. Where would we be without his influence on the world? I would probably be flipping burgers. Thank you Sailor Jerry…
